Hi All and CONGRATULATIONS!

You all played very well and have qualified to be on the team that is going to Turkey!

The World Youth Chess Championships 2007, as you are all probably aware, are being held in Turkey from November 17 to November 29.
I would like to invite all of you to investigate the official site at: http://wycc2007.tsf.org.tr/

You will find Lots of information about the tournament here.

What we need to do RIGHT AWAY, though, is decide who is going.
We need to book the hotel ASAP (If we get in before August 1, there will be a 5% discount.)

I have already had the organizers set aside 25 rooms, some doubles, some triples, but we need to actually set names to them and pay for them asap.

What I still have to do is find out from our new CFC treasurer what our budget is and who our coach or coaches if possible are to be.

I will also be trying to find the best prices for flights.

The CFC will be paying for one flight per section (usually the First place finisher from a given section from the CYCC) and a flight for a coach.
The organizers in Turkey will be providing accommodations and meals for one representative from each section for each Federation. (Again, we declare the First Place finisher from the CYCC to be our “Official” rep.)
The other players that qualified to go for Canada (Those that finished in 2nd or 3rd place at the CYCC) are responsible for their own expenses as are any accompanying persons.

Once we find a good flight, I would like to try to book a group rate and would welcome all players and accompanying persons to take advantage of the group flight.

I would like to have everyone take advantage of the blog that the Awatramani’s have set up for the WYCC team at:
http://wycc2007canada.blogspot.com/
Thank you Gyan!

Please feel free to email me back with questions etc.

In any case, I need everyone to try to decide whether you are going, and how many are going As Soon As Possible.

I would like to be able to have the CFC office send a money transfer to the organizers to try to take as much advantage of the 5% discount as possible. That means that anyone that is booking the hotel with us has to have their money into the CFC before the end of July.

If not everyone is able to make up their mind that fast, it only means that we will not get that discount.

One more note – IMPORTANT – I have been unable to get EVERYONE’s email addresses.
I am still missing:
Kelly Wang – Girls U8
Joey Qin – Boys U12
Richard Wang – Boys U10
Janelle Maxim – Girls U8
Mike Britchko – Boys U10
Johli Labrador – Girls U16
If anyone has any contact or can help me get their email addresses, please please help.

Thank You,
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~

A couple of Q&A:
Q) Are the plans for us to pay the Turkish VISA at Antalya airport, or to try to purchase them in advance? It appears that simply paying $60 US cash at the airport would be simpler all around.

A) I will have more information about the Visa’s soon. I believe that as the last year’s team traveled through Turkey to get to Georgia, they did just that, bought their Visa’s at the border. The organizers will also likely help out with this.

Q) We may want to do some sightseeing for a few days before and/or after the tournament dates, so I would appreciate it if you could please keep this in mind when discussing reduced fares with airline personnel.

A) If you are either staying later or going earlier (Or both) it is likely that you will not be able to take advantage of the group rate (IF we even get one that is.) But I will certainly TRY.

Another Q&A:
Q - One question that we have is, esp. as we will need to
book and pay quite a bit in advance:
What are the cancellation policy should, for example,
someone falls ill, etc.?

A - I hope that we don't really have to find out, but ...
As for flights, the only way out of them when we book is through cancellation insurance.
As for rooms and registrations, I can only speak just now as for previous WYCC's. Previous organizers, for the most part, have been flexible as to making changes to bookings. One previous WYCC, though, we did have problems getting money back after the organizer made changes to our booking.
I will try to get answers from the organizer as to their policy.

And, another Q&A:

This is great having a place to post these, I hope everyone is getting a chance to read these:

Q - Will we be provided with information on how to arrange for tours in the surrounding areas? For example, the tournament schedule lists Friday, Nov 23rd as a "free day". So that would be a good day to take the family to see the more interesting parts of Turkey.

A - I expect that the organizers will have information, and likely some pre-organized tours. I do know that they are very proud of their area for tourism.

What about mecial insurance. When and where do we purchase some.

Medical insurance will be completely your own responsibility. Many people will have travel medical insurance through their work and benefits.
Also, when booking flights, each family should consider cancellation insurance.
